Qualifications & experience
- Must be qualified and trained in counselling and/or therapy (e.g. Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, Graduate Diploma or similar in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work).
- Minimum of 5 years working as a counsellor
- Must have experience in cancer care and/or chronic illness support to assist continuum of illness, including bereavement
- Must have familiarity with Microsoft packages and Zoom
- Experience in upper GI cancers preferable.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Liaising with the PanSupport Team to identify patients and carers who would most benefit from counselling and psychosocial support services.
- Assess patients’ and families’ psychosocial needs and develop a treatment plan, in conjunction with the patient, family, and health care team. Address those needs and to enhance, promote and maintain optimal psychosocial functioning of the patient and family.
- Support the person to develop skills to cope with the emotional, psychological, social, spiritual, and functional aspects of cancer and its treatment.
- Participate in and facilitate where required patient, carer, and grief and bereavement support groups and maintain knowledge of standards of care for upper GI cancers.
- Promote patient and family empowerment and reinforce a sense of autonomy and self-determination.
- Plan and coordinate interventions, and provide counselling services based on accepted best practice standards. Adhering to all privacy laws and regulations, including maintaining patient and carer confidentiality at all times.
- Booking, scheduling, and conducting counselling and/or support sessions according to Patient & Carer Team policies and procedures. Managing and/or supporting the management of patient databases.
- Communicate plan to interdisciplinary PanSupport team and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for identified patients and families.
- Managing counselling support terminations by patient and/or carer.
- Managing appropriate communications with patient and/or carer, e.g., referral to Pancare services, newsletters, or other communications. Foster relationships with the individual and community organizations, to help build upper GI cancer care capacity.

Qualifications & experience
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in cancer care and caring for people with Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancer
- Excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Word, and Teams.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Expected to provide safe, high-quality tele-healthcare and services, identify and manage supportive care needs of patients and care givers.
- Communicate with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals (HCPs) via phone, email, and written correspondence in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Provide relevant information and educational material based on gaps in the understanding for both patients and caregivers.
- Identify need patient and carer needs and refer to relevant support services.
- Obtain information and answer questions regarding: diagnostics tests, treatment, surgery, complications from cancer or treatments and the medicine patients are taking.
- Participate in both face-to-face support events & telehealth events including speaking at patient and carer education programs and presenting to groups regarding specialist medical/oncology topics.
- Attend conferences and meetings and represent Pancare Foundation.
- Deliver in-services to health professionals promoting the Pancare Foundation services.
- Maintain and update patient and carer records in Salesforce.
- Support the wider Pancare team to understand issues facing patients and carers.
