Patient management frameworks: Optimal care pathways
In Australia, optimal care pathways define the best cancer journey for various cancer types and provide an evidence-based framework to improve patient outcomes by facilitating consistent, safe and high-quality cancer care based on a standardised, optimal pathway of care.
The Cancer Council of Australia and expert partners regularly review and release updated optimal care pathways for various cancers, including upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. These optimal care pathways are intended to help guide people affected by cancer and their healthcare professionals through the often-complex experience of cancer across Australia. For more information on optimal care pathways for upper GI cancers, please visit https://www.cancerpathways.org.au/ and select the relevant tile.
The Pancare Foundation participates in the consultative review process to support the delivery of optimal care pathways for upper GI cancers, including pancreatic, liver, stomach, biliary and oesophageal cancers. The Pancare team also serves as an advocate for the inclusion of rare cancers, such as biliary cancers, in future optimal care pathways.
